Indian literary awards
Sahitya Akademi fellowship- it is the
highest literary honour conferred by the
government of India. it is awarded to The
Immortals of literature and was started in
1968 .
Jnanpith Award - it was instituted in

Saraswati Samman- it was instituted in 1991
by the KK Birla Foundation and is given for
any distinguished literary work made during
last 10 years in any of the Indian language

emphasizes on Indian philosophy and culture

National awards
Bharat Ratna – it is the highest civilian award of India
for exceptional public service and rarest achievement
in the field of art ,literature and science it was
instituted in 1954
Padma vibhushan- it is the second highest civilian
award in India .It ranks behind the Bharat Ratna and
comes before the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
The award is given for exceptional and distinguished

Wartime gallantry awards
Param Vir Chakra – awarded for most conspicuous bravery
or some daring and pre-eminent act of self sacrifice in the
presence of the enemy whether on land, at sea or in the air.
Mahavir Chakra - awarded for act of Conspicuous gallantry
in the presence of Enemy weather on land at sea or in the air
Vir Chakra- it was instituted in 1947 and awarded for acts
of gallantry in the presence of enemy
Peacetime gallantry awards
Ashok Chakra - It is the India’s highest peacetime military
decoration award for courageous action or self sacrifice
away from the battlefield. It was instituted in 1952.
Havildar bachittar Singh was the first Indian to receive
this award
Kirti Chakra- it is awarded for courageous action away
from the field of Battle it may be awarded to civilians as well
as military personnel it is the peacetime equivalent of the
maha vir chakra.
Shaurya Chakra- it was instituted in 1952 and is awarded
for courageous and self-sacrifice action while not engaged in
direct action with the enemy
